Haitian Goddesses in headlines

The love of my early years was encapsulated by the generosity women who came to watch over me when I lived in Port-au-Prince and Deschapels. To this day I love the sound of the rooster crow at dawn and the memories of the hills coming alive with song. Everyday was perfect.

Children and chickens all grow up

9 x 9 inches
Time overlaps itself... here my husband watches my son who is fascinated with a chick that is watched over by the hen. I like the idea of Time as a spiral instead of a straight line.

Bride and Muse

6 x 6 inches
acrylic paint on wood
It's not easy being married. It takes a ton of work, flexibility, forgiveness, trust, love, faith and imagination. I really believe the only reason to do it is to share the work raising children and also combine the benefits and costs of health care. That's the 'for sickness and in health" line. And there are all sorts of gray areas around the word "sickness". As far as the kids, I know several couples who have raised great kids together without being married.
SO, my advice, think twice. Yet all great adventures are undertaken with a lack of complete knowledge of the possible outcomes. That's just the way it is.... a long road.

the graduate

6 x6 inches Nobody could ever say education would ruin you... it opens doors. I took a circuitous route to my high school graduation. But I did end up, after time at FSU and CU, with degrees in Fine Arts and Art History.
These days I just breath a little easier because my son stuck it through and graduated high school. It's a basic parents nightmare to see a kid close doors by discounting the value of an education. So I pushed and prodded.... and WE did it!

divine twist, or Blonde Woman in Denial with Headline

9 x 9 inches
Wow- this is a recurring theme in my family. There have been some major individual successes for those who chose to try to overcome the odds and make a new start (everyday). Unfortunately we all suffer and have to work at our own part in the dynamics of the family. My greatest fear is for my sons, so I talk to them about it all the time... but there are no guarantees.

A wild soul as landscape

6 x 6 inches, paint and collage text. Did I tell you my first ten years were spent living in the tropics? Haiti and Malaysia. I think it would be fun to re-visit each place and study the local art scene. I feel as though I might discover something about my artistic roots if I did that.

Such ambition!
We all re-imagine our own histories. I am sure to be leaving things out. I'd like to believe that I was incredibly focused and sharp as a teenager!
